Club News23/01/02 Senior Championship Draw Unveiled

The Tennents County Senior Championship Draw 2002 was unveiled today and, without exception, threw up very challenging ties for St. John's Senior Teams for this year.

In the Senior Football Championship St. John's Senior Footballers play St. Enda's in the 1st round and, if triumphant, would then go on to face either Erin's Own Cargin or St.Gall's in the quarter finals (a repeat of the 1998 and 2001 County Football finals respectively. Both teams would no doubt offer stiff opposition St. Gall's being the reigning champions and Cargin, hungry to regain the title they have won numerous times throughout the 1990's.

In the Senior Hurling Championship St. John's Senior Hurlers play either Glenariffe Ossians or St. Gall's in the quarter finals. Both teams are newly promoted to Division One status and will no doubt be out to prove their mettle in the top flite. Again, should the Senior Hurlers emerge victorious they would most likely face stiff opposition in the shape of Ruairi Og's Cushendall, the team which put them out of the championship last year and who went on to the County Final against Dunloy Cuchullains.

In the Intermediate 'A' Football Championship St. John's play St. James Aldergrove in the preliminary stage and, if successful, would face All Saints Ballymena in the first round.

Finally, in the Intermediate Hurling Championship St. John's face the, always strong, Loughuile Shamrocks in the prelimary stages of the competition. Should they win that game they would progress to the quarterfinals where they would come up against Armoy.
