24/07/02 Footballers' stylish win right on the money away
to Moneyglass
(Guest reporter Gareth Clarke)
As the two team's earlier encounter in the league resulted in John Kelly
receiving a broken leg one could be forgiven for predicting this to be
a similarly fiery matchup however, the game passed off without incident.
The score was 0-14 to 1-5, however this did not reflect the match as
St. Johns tirelessly created numerous goal scoring opportunities (one
brilliantly worked move in particular involved the always industrious
Eamon Blaney releasing Gareth Clarke who in turn found Packy Nolan, however
the Moneyglass keeper made an impressive save to deny them.
Anto Press and Karl McCabe were impressive in the backline. After a slow
start Anto dominated his man and Karl showed a wide range of passing with
great vision.
James Murphy undoubtedly played his best game of the season scoring 6
points in total. 'Windy' Miller managed also to score a well worked point
in the second period to sercure the game.
In the forward line the ever running Gareth Clarke's movement was, at
times, impressive winning vital possession and releasing effective ball
into his full forward line. Indeed the young William Alexander man was
unlucky to see his cheeky lob in the first half come back of the bar!
Also Eamon Blaney played strongly scoring from a number of well worked
moves (4 points), in what had to be the footballers best performance of
the year.
Unfortunately it seems they peaked to late!!!
