02/02/02 Annual dinner
celebrations for St. John's G.A.C.
On Saturday night last, St. John's G.A.C. held its Annual Presentation
Dinner in the Balmoral Hotel. The guest officials joining St. John's members
to celebrate the previous year's achievements were Ulster G.A.A. President
John O' Reilly, Ulster G.A.A. Council Chairman Danny Murphy and a number
of County and South Antrim representatives.
There were four presentations for St. John's senior teams on the night,
following their successes in the All-County Division 3 Football League,
the Junior Camogie Championship, aswell as the South Antrim Hurling Championship
and League respectively.
Kevin Rafferty, the captain of the Division 3 Football
Team, was presented with the All-County Division 3 Football trophy by
County Secretary, Eamon Mc Mahon. The Division 3 team, having won the
All-County League, have now gained Division 2 status and are currently
preparing for, what promises to be, a very challenging season.

Ulster President, John O' Reilly congratulated Junior Camogie Captain,
Clare Peoples and her team at the Junior Championship presentation, fitting
recognition for their huge achievements throughout the previous year.

Enda Mc Gurk, the captain of the South Antrim hurling team, received
the McGuigan Cup from South Antrim Chairman, Charlie Martin and then the
South Antrim Hurling League Shield from South Antrim Secretary, Michael
Herron.

Following the team presentations, the highlight of the night was the presentations
of Young Player of the Year and the St. John's Minor of the Year Award.
Seamus O' Hare presented the Young Player of the Year award to Gareth
Clarke who has represented the club at both minor and senior level during
the past year.

Club Vice-President, Tommy Hoey had the honour of presenting the St. John's
Minor of the Year Award to Eamon Grieve. Tommy remarked that he was delighted
that Eamon was receiving the award and he spoke of Eamon's great commitment
to St. Johns. Eamon has represented St. John's since underage level, he
captained the club's minor hurling team last year, represented the club
as a referee at juvenile level and is also involved with underage coaching.
In addition Eamon has recently completed his foundation level football-coaching
course. The club committee and members would like to congratulate both
Eamon and Gareth on their success to date.
Another presentation made on the night, was to Gearoid Robinson, recognising
his appointment as Antrim senior hurling championship referee in 2001.
St. John's club Chairman, Tony Mc Nulty made the presentation to Gearoid
and wished him well for the future.
In his address John O' Reilly congratulated the club members on their
success to date, both on and off the field. The Ulster President spoke
of the challenges that the club faced in the years ahead and praised the
club members on the Poleglass development. John O' Reilly's address was
followed by an address by County Secretary, Eamon Mc Mahon and Club Chairman,
Tony Mc Nulty.
All the members and guests enjoyed the night's entertainment, which included
an Irish Dancing exhibition by the Reid School of Dancing.
