08/11/02 Brian McFall the pride of St. John's and Ulster
in All Star Nominations
Brian McFall has ended of an historic year for the club at All-Ireland
level by earning a 2002 Vodafone GAA Hurling All Star nomination.
Having already put St. John's GAC on the map by turning in a superb
display against Tipperary in the All-Ireland Quarter-Final (click
here for report) he now holds the only hurling nomination from
Ulster and with it the hopes and expectations of his club, county
and province.
In order to appreciate the size of his acheivement you need only look
at the names he is put alongside: "DJ Carey, Henry Shefflin,
Tony Griffin, Eoin Kelly". |

All-Ireland and Leinster Champions, Kilkenny, has the highest number
with a total of 11 players nominated while 2002 All Ireland hurling finalists,
Clare, received 6 nominations.
Waterford received 8 nominations, including the Vodafone GAA Player of
the Month for June, Ken McGrath.
The final selection for the 2002 Vodafone Hurling All Stars will be announced
on Friday, November 29th at the Vodafone All Star Gala banquet in the
Citywest Hotel when the recipients will be presented with their 2002 Vodafone
Award. The banquet will be broadcast live on RTE 1 television when the
Vodafone All Star Football Players will also receive their awards.

today. This year's Hurling Championship was very exciting with each of
the players nominated showing great skill and providing all hurling fans
with great sporting entertainment and demonstrations of skill. We all
look forward to seeing how all of the nominees fare later this month."
Kilkenny scoring ace DJ Carey is in line to equal the all time record
of 9 All Star Awards, held by Kerry's Pat Spillane.
In total, the 2002 Vodafone Hurling All Star nominees include players
from 10 different counties and are broken down as follows:
