26/04/03 Brian grabs headlines, as well as plenty
of scores, for Antrim yet again
|
Brian McFall was again named Man of the Match for Antrim against
Meath on Sunday past, and in the process eclipsed his match winning
turn for Antrim against Kerry in Tralee seven days earlier, with
an even more vital performance which saw the Saffrons concede no
less than five goals.
"His selection as man of the match must have been one of
the easiest ever to make" reported 'The Andersonstown News'.

Whilst after 27 minutes of the first half Antrim held
an impressive 0-11 0-1 lead, and were in cruise control, the Royal County
turned the tables in dramatic fashion scoring 2-2 in a matter of minutes
to cut the deficit to just 4 points going in at half time the score being
0-13 2-03.
The second half saw Meath playing with the wind at their
backs and they continued to foil Antrim's apparent superiority with more
goals - two within minutes of the restart - and points. Antrim did, for
the most part, manage to keep ahead however a further goal and a number
of points saw Meath take a startling 0-20 5-07 lead with five minutes
remaining on the clock. Fortunately, points from Liam Richmond, Gregory
O'Kane and a late goal from substitute Darren Quinn saw Antrim close out
the game in nail biting fashion - the final scoreline: Antrim 1-22 Meath
5-07.
There was no doubting whose contribution was the most
important to Antrim on the day however, as Brian McFall was yet again
their highest scorer. He sent over no fewer than 12 points for his County
and produced his most impressive performance this season. If any continued
justification was needed for his All-Star nomination in 2002 he has certainly
delivered the goods so far this season.
'The Andersonstown News' had this to say:
 |
"...by far the best was the display of Brian McFall. Throughout
the game he was superb, right from his splendid point from a very
acute angle in the third minute. He gave a maginificant display
of sharpshooting resulting in a personal tally of 12 points, eight
from play.
One particular score stood out, when in the 23rd minute of the
second half he roamed out to midfield, won a ball that he had no
right to win and drove it 70 yards out into the teeth of the breeze
- a point of exceptional quality".
