03/05/03 Johnnies star receives award from sports legend Joe Frasier

Brian McFall brought more awards and honours to St. John's G.A.C this week after a gala event organised by Lord Mayor Alex Maskey and presented by, none other than, sporting legend 'Smokin' Joe Frasier - former undisputed heavyweight boxing champion of the world.

Also known for a bit of boxing of his own from time to time, hurling star Brian was one of amongst 80 sports people who had displayed outstanding performances and brought credit to Belfast over the past 12 months and whose achievements were rightly recognised and honoured at an official function at Belfast City Hall during the week.

The Lord Mayor remarked: " There are so many people in this city who have excelled. We don't know how lucky we are. Never before has there been a single evening when all our sporting achievers have been brought together to showcase the talent in the city and the commitment to sport and community activity."

This came also in a week when Brian had produced yet another superb performance for Antrim (this time against Carlow) and fired them into the National Hurling League Final - which will be played in GAA Headquarters, Croke Park on Monday 5th May. Brian notched up another deadly display of sharpshooting with 2 goals and a number of points to safely guide Antrim, who stuttered at times during the match but for his scoring, to victory 3-11 0-15.

Best of Luck from everyone at St. John's to Brian, and to Antrim, when they journey to Croke Park for Monday's final.

We hope he can produce another 'smokin!' performance...
