04/04/04 St. John's Division 2
Hurlers have good win over Armoy
Sunday 04/04/2004
All County Antrim Div.2 Hurling League.
St. Johns 1:11
Armoy 1:09
St. Johns reserves started the senior Hurling competitive
year with a fine 2 point victory over Armoy in Corrigan
on Sunday afternoon.
The game was a close affair through out with the Johnnies
holding their 2 point half-time lead to the end. This
is a very young team with the average age only 19. (Of
course if we could take F.Collins (Major) out of the
equation the average age would drop to 15.)
Certainly Colm McFall, John-Joe Hartigan and Liam Knocker
starred in defence. Joe Herald had a solid game at centre
field and up front Niall Grego and Jimmy Peoples took
the laurels.
The veteran half forward line of Conor McCaffery, Fergal
Collins and Packie Nolan battled for the hour. Conor
McCormick was safe in nets and his 100m plus puck-outs
were great to watch.
Certainly a lot of players will be breathing down the
necks of their Division 1 counterparts.
