17/05/04 St. John's Under 21's going
well in the Football Championship
St. John's 1:12
Rossa 0:02
There was a good enough turnout to watch the Johnnies
beat Rossa in a 9 point first half blitz to Rossa's 0-1
reply. The backline never gave the Rossa forwards a look
in with an impressive half backline of Liam Knocker, Niall
McCallin, and Kevin 'peter andre' Kennedy. Distribution
was fast and accurate into the forward line which gave
the likes of JP, Adrian Oliver and the returning Liam
McKissock time to turn and steady themselves for their
shot.
Best in the forward line had to be Adrian Oliver with
a 1:04 total. It was a well worked goal starting with
Niall McCallin driving through the middle at his full
pace (2mph!) feeding Adrian who found the net! Big Joe
was disgusted the ball never arrived to him, but Niallsy
proved he made the right decision as Joe later missed
a one on one with the keeper, hitting the post! Bad luck
Joe!!
Grego got on the score sheet, which was good to see against
his old club, with a great first half point out on the
far left touchline. Kevin McGlinchy also won a lot of
ball in the middle which gave the Johnnies a great advantage
over Rossa for kick outs. A costly part of this easy victory
was the loss of Ciaran 'Jackpot' McCurdy who suffered
a nasty break during the game. The club and his team-mates
(including the Division 2 footballers) wish him a speedy
recovery.
Next on the hit list was a mixture of Aldergrove and
Glenavy, who surprisingly beat Davitts. This game took
place on Monday 10th May away from home and was a close,
nail-biting affair. St. John's looked all but beaten late
into injury time until they carried out a 'Harry Houdini'
move and romped home with a goal and 2 points to snatch
victory away from their amalgamated opponents!
