Under 16 Football and Hurling Roundup 20/06/04

03/06/04 KOJAK & STAVROS
South Antrim U-16 Football League Div 1 Thursday

St. Galls: Won
St. Johns: 14 men

St. Johns U-16 footballers could not fulfil this fixture with 15 players as we were unable to produce a full panel on the night mainly due to exams and injuries. (Apologies to St.Galls)
Our 14 present however played the game and were subsequently well beaten for their efforts. Manager Collie McKnight was a little bit 'grumpy' about the issue.
'Additional maths 'O' Levels never made me the footballer I am today'……...yes..indeed we all realise that.
He went on .. 'I was talking to one father on the mobile, of one of our missing midfield players who at the same time was being threatened by his wife in his other ear.' ' I told him that I would leave it in his capable hands.'
'When he didn't weigh in my Assistant Manager Stephen and I ripped the back out of him.'
Of course.

Collie and Stephen's relationship is a bit like the Kojak and his 2nd Lieutenant Stavros. Collie always shouts 'Stavros' and gets the reply 'Yes Lieutenant as Stephen shuffles over to see what bidding his master wants.

10/06/04 Under 16 footballers through to next round of the championship

Antrim U-16 Football Championship - Thursday - Corrigan Park - 7:00pm

St. Johns ……..…4:09 (21)
Ardoyne............. 3:10 (19)

A strong Ardoyne team arrived in Corrigan Park fully committed to this championship outing and played their part in an enjoyable end to end encounter which we fortunately came through as two point victors.

Brian Neeson again outstanding with 3:09 to his credit was ably assisted by Kevin Cunningham and James Darragh. We now play the winners of the St Endas/St Galls clash which will go to a replay. The date of the quarter final will be fixed in due course.

17/06/04 Footballers beaten by defeated championship opponents in league

South Antrim U-16 Football League Division 1 - Thursday - 6:30pm - Poleglass Pitch

St.Johns 3:09 (18)
Ardoyne 3:11 (20)

Ardoyne gained some compensation for their previous weeks defeat in the Championship with a 2 point win this time in their favour. Certainly they had learned from their previous defeat and kept the mercurial Neeson scoreless from play. All in all a good disciplined team performance from St. Johns despite the defeat.

Kevin Cunningham had an excellent game and was well supported by Peter McGarrity and Eoghan Caldwell for St.Johns.

20/06/04 Under 16 hurlers' championship journey ends at quarterfinals

Antrim U-16 Hurling Championship Quarter Final - Sunday - 12:00pm - 'Bear Pit'

Gort na Mona 2:13
St. Johns 2:03

St. Johns U-16 Hurlers crashed out of the championship on Sunday to a well drilled Gort na Mona outfit. Leading 1:05 to 0:01 at the interval the Gorts withheld an early second half revival from an out-of-sorts Johnnies who managed to pull the lead back to 1:05 to 2:01 before Gort na Mona began to steadily pick off scores, mainly from frees from the accurate Paddy McCaffrey who finished with an impressive 1:10 to his credit.

St. Johns had a poor day out with little to show apart from good performances from James Darragh, Anthony Moore and Brian Holmes.

Gort na Mona now play Sarsfields in the south Antrim final in September.

St. Johns: 1.Ciaran McKissock 2.Marty Elliott 3.Colm McCrudden 4.Peter McGarrity 5.Aodh Hamilton 6.Anthony Moore 7.James Darragh 8.Eoghan Caldwell 9. Aodhan Mulholland 10. Pat Gregory 11.Brian Holmes 12.Tomas Shannon 13.David McGarrity 14.Barry McFall 15.Jamesey McGibbon
