14/05/05 Under-21 Hurlers' Championship Round-up

07/05/05 U21 All County Antrim Hurling Championship Quarter Final

Ballycastle 0:07 St. Johns 1:06

St Johns U21's travelled to Ballycastle on Saturday evening and returned with a hard won commendable victory over Ballycastle in cold blustery conditions. St. Johns built a wind assisted first half lead of 1:04 to 0:02 before the expected Ballycastle second half fight back which was held by a resolute Johnnies defence. Indeed this was a game of the defences with few scores from play by two sets of ineffectual forwards.
St. Johns had steady performances from McCrory, McCurdy, Maskey, Knocker, Hartigan and young goal minder Brian Holmes.

14/05/05 U21 All County Antrim Hurling Championship Semi Final

St. Johns 1:06 Cushendall 1:16

St. Johns U21 Hurlers traveled to Glenravel on Saturday evening only to fall heavily to an unimpressive Cushendall team in a poor excuse for a championship semi-final.
With the loss of influential midfielder Simon McCrory in the third minute through injury St. Johns struggled to find any real penetration through a robust 'Dall defence.

Going in at half time 5 points down (1:08 to 1:03) the Johnnies still had some hope and when Cushendall had a player sent off early in the second half you felt that they were still in with a strong chance.

But with only Noel Rooney and Colm McFall playing well and Fionntain McKillop, Barry McFall, Liam Knocker and Conal Maskey shining in patches Cushendall steadily wore down a surprisingly unspirited Johnnies team which was manned in too many positions with players not looking up to the challenge.
