St. Johns Minor Hurlers travelled to Glenravel on Friday evening with 15 players to do battle with Omerbane (and the Midgets) in the opening game of the Minor Hurling season. In an exciting entertaining game it was end to end stuff and either team could have come away with the points.

Gort na Mona 1:07(10) St. Johns 0:12

St. Johns Minor Hurlers picked up their first win off the new season with an impressive win over Gort na Mona. Simon McCrory and Eoghan Caldwell held sway at centre field with Barry McFall and Conal Maskey controlling their sectors. McCrory in particular had an excellent game. Brian Holmes had a solid hour in goal.

Up front Tomas Shannon and Aodhan Mulholland looked sharp for the Johnnies.

Loughgiel 4:09 (21) St. Johns 1:12 (15)

St. John’s Minors travelled to Loch gCaol on Friday evening and returned pointless after a reasonable match with north Antrim king pins Loughgiel. Going in at half time 3:06 to 1:04 behind the second half saw a wind assisted St. Johns beginning to exert pressure and looking good for the game. But after conceding a soft goal St. Johns faded and Loughgiel finished the stronger.

St Johns 1:08(11) Dunloy 2:09(15)

An under strength St. John’s Minor Hurling team fell to Dunloy in the all county league on Friday night in another match we could have won. Dunloy simply took a few more of the available scoring chances in an evenly contested match. Brian Holmes and Fionntain McKillop had strong games in this one. With recent league reverses against St.Galls and Cushendall morale appeared low but despite these league set backs it’s clear to everyone that at full strength we will be a serious contender in this years Minor Hurling Championship.
