St. Johns caught Gort na Mona on the hop in the first league match of the season in a soaking Corrigan Park on Sunday. St. Johns looked sharper and had some excellent performances from Michael Flannery, Colin Fegan, Eoghan Caldwell, Aodhan Mulholland and Anthony Moore.

St. Johns U-16’s continued their fine start to the year with a 1 point win over the Paddies in Corrigan Park. Sarsfields made an exciting game of it with Cailin Caldwell of Sarsfields pointing 9 frees to pile the pressure on.

What a difference a week or two makes! Starting the 2nd half a point in front (1:06 to 1:05) St. Johns looked in a good position. And when the Gorts lost a man (red card) you felt that they had the game for the taking. But when goal minder Declan McVeigh was sidelined a few minutes later the wheels and undercarriage fell off as the Gorts went on a second half scoring spree.

Despite having ordered the mini bus the week before and having it passed by Senior Committee at the previous Committee Meeting it of course was no where to be seen leaving 18 players and 3 mentors stranded in Corrigan.

The manager of the U16 Hurling Team wishes to repeat his disgust at this.

St. Johns found this a tough game to win. St. Galls as always well organized, fit and direct made them struggle to win the points.

St. Johns and Dunloy played out a pulsating U-16 All County League game on Monday evening in Corrigan Park. Going in at the interval 9 points down St. Johns looked dead and buried before a brilliant fight back saw them pull back some excellent scores to give them victory. Full credit to both teams on an excellent display of Hurling.
