St. Johns U-16’s had an impressive win over St.
Pauls on Monday evening at Shaws Road. Leading 2:10 to
0:00 at half time St. Johns were in dominant form with
David McGarrity ,Anthony Moore, Aodhan Mulholland, Sean
Lawell, Gerard Carberry and Adrian Downey in fine form.
Tomas Shannon was in particular,”on fire” with
a personal tally of 4:02.

St. Pauls started briskly scoring 1:01 in the first two
minutes before St. Johns woke up to the fact that they
were in a match. Tomas Shannon again showing great form
with a splendid tally of 4:05. Aodhan Mulholland dominated
the midfield area and scored six points. James Darragh
, Colin Fegan, Brendan McGibbon and Anthony Moore also
showing good form.

This tough but very skillful encounter left St. Johns
somewhat deflated at the end after they squandered an
8 point lead with 12 minutes to go and allowed Shane O’Neills
to pick off 3 goals and give them the points. The St.
Johns management felt that the team should have been shot
at dawn for this.

Fielding a depleted team with a lot of players away on
holiday St. Johns found themselves four points down at
the interval but Rossa pulled away steadily in the second
half to inflict the first defeat in the South Antrim Hurling
league this year.

Despite a disastrous start by conceding 2:02 in the first
5 minutes St. Johns came back and rode the Sarsfields
storm and slowly began to pull away after some major positional
changes. A great team performance with goal minder Brendan
O’Neill particularly in great form. Aodhan Mulholland,
Brendan McGibbon,Anthony Moore and Eoghan Caldwell all
had good games. Young substitute Joe Joe Garland had a
great game scoring 2:00.
